Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)
Our work with the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is focused on protecting, restoring and sustainably managing blue carbon ecosystems across the Indian Ocean region.
The Blue Carbon Hub works with governments, researchers, civil society and industry partners throughout IORA Member States to build and share knowledge and support evidence-based policy and finance to support sustainable use of the coast. Activities include ‘think tank’ events where we explore problems and seek solutions, regional workshops, training opportunities for early-career ocean professionals, original research, and compiling and sharing resources.
We aim to advance sustainable blue economy outcomes by integrating environmental protection with social and economic development. Through collaboration and innovation, the Blue Carbon Hub supports nature-based solutions that enhance climate adaptation, reduce coastal hazards and create long-term opportunities for people across the Indian Ocean region.
Science
Advancing research, monitoring and knowledge sharing to better understand and protect blue carbon ecosystems, while building regional scientific capacity and collaboration.
Finance
Developing innovative funding and investment pathways, including carbon and biodiversity finance, to support sustainable blue carbon conservation and community outcomes.
Policy
Strengthening governance and regional cooperation by supporting evidence-based policies that integrate blue carbon into climate, coastal and blue economy strategies.
